Lifextraordinary Sponsoring Bone Marrow Drive
September 24, 2017
At any given time 6,000 people are searching for a bone marrow donor or cord blood unit and 3 out of 4 patients who need a bone marrow transplant will depend on a complete stranger to save their lives. The Lifextraordinary Foundation was founded by Robert and Shannon Hunt after their son Hawken battled a rare and aggressive form of leukemia called Burkitt. The foundation is a sponsor of the Chagrin Falls Film Fest 5k and will be hosting a bone marrow drive before, during and after the race that will take place on Sunday, October 1st from 8:00 - 11:00 A.M. at 400 East Washington Street.
Co-founder of the Lifextraordinary Foundation, Shannon Hunt stated, “Each year nearly 15,000 patients in the United States will need a bone marrow transplant and only half will be able to receive one. The mission of our foundation is to support families and there could be no greater way than to help build the list of donors that may save a life.” According to Hunt the process involves a simple mouth swab and takes less than five minutes. We are hopeful many within our community will step forward and become a member of a life saving list.
