Michele was instantly my friend when I met her our sophomore year at Ohio State. We were roommates in our sorority Kappa Delta, and even shared the same career of teaching. So, of course, we have had a lot in common. She was in my wedding, and I was in hers. We lived near each other for years, and shared our highs and lows of life. Michele taught language arts at North Olmsted Middle School, and I taught the same at West Geauga. We can go back to the "80's" in a flash, reminiscing about our college days. We've danced and laughed...until May of 2016.
Meech, as I call her, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Meech is one strong chica, so of course she met it head on. She went through surgeries, chemo, radiation, hair loss... you name it. In July of 2017, she was getting back to her old self. My daughters and I met her in Little Italy, and couldn't believe how wonderful she looked and how happy she seemed. Then...I got a call from Meech in August just about the time she was getting ready to head back to school. She was having severe migraines. The cancer was in her brain and she was unfortunately diagnosed with triple negative cancer.
My hope in sharing her story is to compliment Meech's strength and to help her and her family as I know she would do for me.
